If you have a solid foundation in computer science, then you will be a better software engineer in the long run. There are typically more software design jobs than hardware design jobs, so it makes sense to build your skills in the area that you have a higher chance of getting a job in. If you had mentioned that you were passionate about hardware, then my advice would have been to focus on the EE side of things more.
