I think RF2 is okay but your experience will be greatly dampened since you started with 3 because all the QOL will be gone, you have less access to weapons in the beginning, farming is a bit dumber, the best part about dungeons comes after you fuck and have a kid, but then you have way less people to talk to when you play as your kid. If I were you, I may skip it since you might get frustrated. 4 is closer to 3, than 2.
Or if you can emulate it, play Rune Factory Frontier.
