They are a smaller species of demon that need a host to survive. They target intelligent humanoids primarily and their cute appearance is meant to facilitate this. Their host is required for food, protection and reproduction

Phantom’s species reproduces using the same force that sustains them, the life force/aura of a sentient host. In theory, they could feed off of the great data-dragons or other similarly mighty creatures but this is rare in practice. Such creatures have little desire for the enmeshed bond required for the demon dogs to feed properly. Demon dogs evolved to look endearing and non threatening to social, sentient Utopian beings like humans.

This species is not a fast breeding one and are menaced by Corruption Beasts like most living beings. After securing a host that will nourish and protect them in the long term, a demon dog will stash away some extra life force. The pups are formed from a mix of their parent’s and the host’s energies and inherit quirks/appearance from both.
