Be5 does threaten checkmate, but Black can stop the threat with f6 or Ng7. The computer chose Ng7 in this case. Now it looks like there's a forced checkmate somewhere.

I was thinking

1.Nxg6 Nxe8 2.Ne7+ f5 3. Bxf5#

but there doesn't seem to be a good reply after

1.Nxg6 Qe1+ 2.Kh2 Qxe4 (and 3.Re8+ isn't mate because of 3...Kxg6)

or 1.Nxg6 fxg6 2.Re7 Qe1+ 3.Kh2 Qxe4

So it feels like I'm still stuck
