>you don't build a viewerbase by not streaming. it's their own fault entirely

Even if they did stream consistently, EN vtubing doesn't have the anime infrastructure to self sustain like in Japan. JP vtubers have access to the otaku culture, anime and manga events, news, JP artists, as well as constant company collaborations so there is a lot of horizontal terrain to explore.

For EN vtubers, it's a niche thing in the sense that it's isolated from other spheres.
While it has the pros of not being contaminated by Hollywood western crap, there is not much to gain for EN vtubers by making the CCV go up. There is barely few events to do on the west, or have any collaboration or impact with other hobbies.

For example, suppose you removed Gaming out of the content vtubers can do. I think JP vtubers could still thrive with their anime like voice acting(which EN doesn't tend to do), or talking about manga or anime or Japanese cultural events or collabs with companies. The Doujinshi culture of self publishing guarantees endless original content. A JP vtuber can become an ambassador for JP, can you imagine the same from an EN vtuber in the US?

For western vtubers:
Most have self admitted to never watching anime, they don't really put any effort into the "acting" part (like Pic related), they take pride in being "authentic" so they are not different from any other twitch thot. The Zoomer disease of irony poisoning makes it so the streamers are only encouraged to be smug about how silly and ironic is to be an anime character.

If they breached into western cultural events their content would be streams talking about Lady Gaga or collabs with celebrities like Cr1TiKaL. Which obviously current vtuber fans wouldn't appreciate, but where else can EN grow to now??
If Gura goes from 20k views to 40k views, what then? what would feel different for her or her fans? Only a more unreadable chat.
Does she get to do more interesting events?
Talk to more famous western normies?
Is the extra revenue changing the streams?
Nope.
Nothing.
There is no point in growing.

tl;dr Growing doesn't mean cultural relevance or new frontiers for EN. There is no reason to try.
