To add to this, just to explain some of those other functions in UI,
Padding is basically you telling the AI how much to look ahead when inpainting. So if you mask the hands, increasing the padding will tell it tool look at the arm too (just as reference not change). so basically it will cut the mask+padding and img2img that based on your prompt.
So while you can just max it, it will increase render time and sometimes mess with inpainted portions res if not big enough.
Other techniques, let's say you hate portion of the image and just want to get rid of it, use the "fill" with somewhat high padding and denoise (0.5-0.6)
should get rid of it (no need change the prompt).
If you photobash or draw or want to make a big change, use "Whole picture" and do it before you upscale and then upscale, should meld it all together. Prompt should be original prompt + whatever you added.
