Most Japanese companies are still run by old out of touch boomers that don't understand the internet outside of its most basic use. They tend to be very protective over their properties and see streaming as a form of theft or the loss of a sale.

Its objectively a bad decision for Cover to require hololive girls to get permission for several reasons. The likelihood of any company actually filing a DMCA take down is so much lower than what people actually think. They are much more likely to claim ad revenue on that video. If that happens who cares? Stream archives make fuck all in ad revenue and Hololive makes the most from super chats. Also at this point, the companies who do DMCA take downs are pretty well known (Nintendo, Atlas, etc), just avoid these companies game and they should be fine.

Also companies are likely to tell you no "you cant make money off our game", but historically make not attempt to take down videos of it. That Rockstar for example, Hololive had to get permission to play their games and that was only with superchats disabled. Meanwhile YouTube is full of monetized video of GTA and people stream it all the time with no issues.

I'll be honest, I was a huge fan of Hololive, but the lack of diversity in the selection of games is really killing it for me.
