I say this absolutely seriously: social media have been a disaster because the human brain is not developed enough to understand how it decides which part of reality it is presented to them, ie the human brain can't tell the difference between normalcy (ie what better describe the world) and the extremes (which are pushed by the algorithm) combined with the self inflicted bubbles.

This is combined with how men tend to make female media look worse than it is, aka how 50 shades of grey became this incredibly dark and fucked up erotic fantasy when it's borderline vanilla.
