I think the main thing is that a third character would be to have the normal Spider-man gameplay. Miles did have a lot of different nuance to him but with the trailer showing Peter leaning so hard into the symbiote you'd miss out on the basic Spider-man gameplay

Only a few places I can see this going from here. Hopefully Venom's not the main villain since that would be anticlimactic to know so early. PS4 Spider-Man handled Doc Ock's transformation from good guy into final boss really fucking good so I'm going to speculate right now that Venom will be a third playable character after he turns good partway through the game. Spider-man loses the symbiote, gets his old gameplay back, but the symbiote stuff is then attached to Venom instead and the true villain is going to be Carnage.
