So I was with my gf. For reference she's Chinese, I'm English-Italian, and yes her being Chinese is actually relevant to this story. If that's the song she sang that clicked it for you, considering the context of that song (a woman realizing she's in love with this goofball of a man that never was always watching her but never able to take the step of going beyond small talk and then fate separated them, and the song is about a forever sense of "what could have been" even after she's moved on and had her own family) I don't know if that's the ultimate irony or the most fitting song in the world for the situation.
