Yeah, it's a 40% markup for buying bits at low levels, but for every tier after 500 the markup goes down quite a bit. Compare that with a Superchat on YouTube where if you give your streamer $5 they get only $3.50 because of YouTube's 30% cut. So, if you wanted to give them $5 and actually have them get $5 you have to Superchat the streamer $7.14 which is a 43% markup.

In short, both bits and Superchats have markups if you want to give the streamer x amount. Instead, almost every Twitch streamer has a way to give them a direct cash donation through Streamlabs or StreamElements, which has almost no cut going to anybody and is the best option if you want to give your oshi $5.
