It's like having an essential societal service in these dark times. I'm not going to say you can never make it, but if the point of having a local service worker (say a firefighter) is that you're glad they're there, hope they never end up coming to YOUR house, then one could look at an Oshi the same way. Someone to love for the loveless as a stand-in for real human connection, because at least something is better than nothing. I suppose. Grim implications yet again about the future of society, but hey, I've already come full circle to getting ready to embrace our Black-Mirror AI overlords anyway, so. . . y'know.
