I think that's part of it, yeah. I watch the girls quite a bit and while I think they're pretty good at engaging commentary and entertaining an audience, there's also a decent amount of downtime in their streams where they're not saying anything interesting and just making cute noises for reactions. I love Selen a lot and her superchat tangents are some of my favorite streams, but there's a ton of moments in her game streams where it's just uproarious laughter or yelling the same thing over and over again.
Not denying that Sonny has a lot of room to improve in his commentary, of course. I have a lot of similar complaints to you, but I still enjoy watching his streams because his commentary isn't that bad and his streams are comfy with games I'm interested in. It just seems from your description that you're looking for someone who's engaging and entertaining at every moment in the stream, and I think that's a rather unreasonable standard to hold someone to. He's not perfect, but I still enjoy watching him.

I had a feeling he'd actually broach this topic since he's made a few off-hand jokes in previous streams about not understanding people or not getting human feelings, even down to comparing himself to BT in his Titanfall stream. Glad he's talking about it, since I'm sure he's gotten some flak and feedback for not having great commentary on his streams.
I don't think he actually has problems talking about things, though. He was fine in his Debut 2.0 once he stopped talking about himself and started talking about his lore video, and he's gotten way more into his element now that he's just talking about fun animal facts. Guy doesn't really have to change the way he approaches things, just say some of the dumb things that are probably floating around in that autistic little mind of his. It's cute. I have low standards and will listen to people talk at length about anything they like, even if it's memory allocation in PS2 emulation. I suspect most women are the same considering how many people thirsted over Shu writing code.

I think it's actually cute as hell that Sonny does that. It's like the inverse of gap moe. He has a very polite, very seiso exterior and when his toxic troll side comes out, it's even more shocking and funny. Him apologizing for being a gremlin afterwards just makes it even more cute, because he sounds so genuine but you just know he's still going to murderhobo the next chance he gets.
I love it. I hope he keeps that up.
