This thread will disagree, but Fuwamoco were designed for the Japanese audience. Extreme weebs to the level that they are immersed in not just JP meme culture, but JP culture itself, extreme interest in JP media for ojisans, extreme roleplay that Japanese love more, JP style comfy morning streams, heavy focus on being idols and having a very close oshi-fan relationship etc. etc.
They're basically the Korone of HoloEN, with her heavy yet innocent interest in western media, movies, TV shows, games etc. PLUS a bunch of old classic games (both western and Japanese) all played on the original hardware.

But where Japan has the oshi culture where you try to learn and understand your oshi's interests (which is the reason holo sponsorships are so successful), Western VTuber fans simply do not care for their oshi's content other than for it's entertainment value. A large portion of Koronesuki like watching over Korone's Star Wars obsession, or her weird movie watchalongs, or her Mother playthroughs - and some even get into the series that she plays just because of her playing it.
For Western fans, Fuwamoco were a fun novelty early on, but the fans are realizing that this is what they are. This is what their content is gonna be like. And they're getting filtered, like >>60288889 says.
Except, the "true fans" of their type of content is a a niche that's within a matryoshka doll of niches (Western Anime fans --> VTuber fans --> Hololive fans --> Japan culture fans --> old Japanese net culture/old Japanese media fans).
Whether it's the obscure VNs, or the weird karaoke song selections (other than the first one which had some EN favorites), or the weird old games played off their own hardware - none of it interests the typical Western VTuber fan.

The numbers will continue collapsing, but they will settle at a decent 4k or 5k floor eventually, with maybe 8-9k for their morning show.
The "wasted opportunity" is because Fuwamoco are like pearls cast before the swine that are the western VTuber audience instead of being in HoloJP where they would be getting First Army level of numbers if they streamed in Japanese.
