Split threads are a counter measure to doomsday /wvt/ scenarios where one or two vtubers with not that many total viewers dominate the discussion because they have more fans in this site. Think /yah/ - /pyon/.
The people who resisted the harder to come here when it was a dead thread split will also resist splitting further, but there is only so much a community can grow before it descends into the chaos that is /hlgg/ - which has in fact sustained an infinite number of splits without that much change.

Decline is inevitable in any community. The only counter is splits, which why schizos fight them.
The less people in a given thread, the less (you)s received, plus it takes a while to learn which bait works, because they don't actually read the threads.
Trash /wvt/ ran for quite a long time before schizos realized everyone had already left and they were just replying to themselves.

A curious phenomenon, in the male vtuber scene at the 30-50 barrier a cultural shift starts to occur: wild fujos will being to appear.
