Non Anon from Prism talked about this a lot in one of her recent streams. She spent months streaming to 0 viewers and honing her craft just to learn to get comfortable talking on stream and then sent out tons of resumes to every single vtuber company that was holding auditions while slowly refining her resume and audition video. Sometimes you stream for hours to 0 viewers and try to hold a conversation with yourself just to prevent dead air in case someone shows up randomly. Then you finally get a viewer and try to interact with them and they get spooked and leave and you're back to 0 viewers. It's a fucking struggle but at least it puts things in perspective for you to be thankful once you finally achieve those 40 viewers that those small companies get.
