We should start with what we do know: In the beginning, there was a girl named Ina and a strange book she found that turned her into what we see today. There's a lot we don't know about the book: what's in it, when, where, and how it was found, why it seems to be able to levitate on its own, what the symbols on its cover represent, and why it has a picture of Ina's current form on it. We don't know what Ina looked like prior to reading the book, and so far the only clue we have about the book's connection to the world is a picture Ina made of an abandoned shrine in the woods with a symbol that seems to match the cover of her book and the front of her collar. We don't know if the collar or the rest of her outfit for that matter has any particular significance either. She insists despite her visible extraneous appendages (the flaps, the fleshy bangs and the wings) that she is 100% human. She makes an occasional reference to working at a shrine as a priestess, with other priestesses, and the end card of her streams is an image of her standing on the grounds of a shrine.
