I like to think that Magni creates potions (read: meds) for Altare in order to temporarily tame the demon inside of him from going on a rampage and killing an entire village whenever his bloodlust builds up for a long period of time and is close to bursting.
I guess fujos and yumes would like it if he had to commit some sort of atrocity to avoid such a tragedy from happening every now and then so he doesn't HAVE to take his meds. That can tie in with Magni letting him have his way with him when things start getting dangerous. Its fine since Magni is probably a homunculus and can transfer his soul to other copies anyway. He can kill Magni as many times as he wants as long as he has a spare.
Imagine a risky time where Magni hasn't replenished his stock of homunculi and insists that Altare needs to wait a while until he's finished but the thought of killing him for real is too enticing to ignore
