>Being a loser just doesn't work for male idols, like it can for female idols.
That's a trope as old as written language and since the dawn of electricity the roles are assigned as such
>desirable women are portrayed as ditsy, clumsy and easily taken advantage of, and yet cunny and smart on their feet to quickly get out of potential troublesome situations
>desirable men are are portrayed as intelligent, strong and stone faced but (in a privilege reserved to the audience only and their romantic interest) not incapable of showing a softer more emotional side
Take western movies. The good guy was usually strong enough to shoot out half the bandits in the city but still talented enough to give his romantic pair a serenade.

There is a trend these days to present women with "plastic boys", nowadays korean but back in the days, as american as apple pie (like the New Kids on the Block) but that's "fast food" for teenagers with low shelf life and unless a company is pushing a disposable set of five every six months or so it has no chance to succeed while the usual archetypes end up lasting much longer, sometimes a lifetime.
