Red lines are painful falling paths. Red striped zones are places where the level geometry is designed to put you on the red line falling path. Green lines and Xs are hard jumps / landing spots that will put you in the red striped zone if you fail them.

Mori is hyper careful about that ledge with the light shining on it, as she should be. She's fallen over it once and that one time took her back into the poison village she hadn't seen in like ten hours.
The tower section with the red striped zones on the edges feels a lot more dangerous than it is, if you fall in the middle you always end up on one of the three blocks at the base, it's only if you fall in the red striped zones that you go back and have to brave the shining ledge jump once again.
