Hate and anger makes you a block of indestructible steel, yes. But that steel will rust and break down over time, and there will be no one to clean it off for you, for your hate and anger pushed them all away.
Love on the other hand might make you a brittle clay pot that easily breaks, but those cracks can be repaired either by you those that your love attracted, creating a beautiful and unique piece of art.
And you are right in needing a purpose in life, but why can't that purpose be love?
