Need to look into it but honey is probably a big secondary product of the berry farms. For example strawberry plants are hermaphroditic so farmers are probably pretty happy to let bees pollinate for them. Artificial pollination should be practiced pretty widely in this period but for some rural areas with less manpower bees are probably the main pollinator. In fact honey although less productive should be the most accessible form of sugar for people before the global sugar cane trade and sugar beats.
