Oh, they'll be overworked alright... (picrel)
>picrel is basically how ships sail against the wind, with square rigs having to take shallower angles to do so. If the wind is light (say, when they're near the doldrums moving onshore), they would likely have to go even further and sail in a 8 pattern called wearing, which can take even longer.
To be honest, that's what I was looking into a while ago, hence the question in >>21791754. Basically, /morig/'s ship design (square rig, likely heavily armed) means that they'll are fastest when sailing downwind, and a salvo (that lands) will easily BTFO its targets. That's why the first two rules of /meat/ naval doctrine when dealing with this design is:
>never let the enemy present their broadside at you
>never engage in running chase
Of course, the dominant trade wind and holo monsoon means it's easy (for a fellow naval country) to predict when will /morig/ fleet be the most effective, and thus the operation can be planned against it.
In /meat/'s view, the best way /morig/ can counter this strategy (save for adopting the same kind of sail, which probably won't work well against /meat/ anyway since they have centuries of experience operating them) is to position their fleet across the ocean (since /morig/'s rich naval tradition means they also know all these issues) to intercept /meat/ fleet, hence its diplomacy will focus on minimising these staging grounds.
The other way for /morig/ to counter it would be to, well, camp - mobility doesn't matter if the enemy has to go past that place. However, Holosea is a pretty open water, so that means the camping locations would have to be raiding targets, and as what a /meat/ strategist might say, "they can't be everywhere".
