>Oh, the essential oils are used as fuel as well? Do the flames have a fun color?
They are! Or at least you can refine good fuel from them. It’s mostly to justify the rainpunk/pseudo-steampunk aesthetics I want, although I think the less active geology of Despina also makes fossil fuel less concentrated so an alternative petroleum’s needed. As for the color I imagine it’s whatever color vitubium flame would be unless the chelate also has other metallic elements if I remember my high school chemistry class correctly
>That makes it sound like the technological development of those techniques continued
They do since I imagine most advanced /vnug/ technologies are more or less related to vitubium compounds apart from simple mechanisms and alternative energy sources like wind power and fusion power, and bard-magicians are probably one of the few things that survive the Long Night more or less intact as they don’t require a lot of man-made infrastructure to work. Plus I like the idea that arts and stories are probably the last thing human civilizations would forget even in the face of apocalypse!
>Are there space age bard-magicians who can manipulate those spells even more effectively? Is the magitech equipment that can use this?
I think dreamwort distillation will eventually lead to the development of crystalline vitubium (although in the future they’ll be able to mine vitubium directly instead of relying on huge dreamwort plantations) which is essential for mecha and other electronic systems /vnug/ use, so /vnug/ technologies are mostly magitech in nature even if they might not look that part! Man-machine interface would still be mostly neural but other control systems also exist. I don’t know if audio control’s gonna work for something as complex as mecha though even if I like that idea
