The problem is that Mio's brand of girlfriend experience falls completely outside the usual definition in the vtuber sphere. People are used to an extremely idealized version that aims to emulate the most intimate, romantic aspects of a relationship at all times and never interacts with men. What Mio does, on the other hand, more closely emulates what it's actually like to have a girlfriend day-to-day, where she just behaves normally most of the time and has normal platonic interactions with men.
Unfortunately there isn't really a separate term to describe the way Mio does it, so people hear that Mio is GFE, come in expecting the former type, receive the latter type, and then go full schizo because they feel deceived.

Why are /tsunX/ Koreans so architect friendly when I have been led to believe that most Koreans are absolutely not at all?
