nah the big reason is that the female and male audience for vtubers are largely incompatible, trying to appeal to one segment naturally alienates the other and trying to shove both audiences together naturally leads to conflict and one side winning and the other side languishing in bitterness. Outfits like strawberry prince and first stage productions proves that male vtubers can get a significant audience, they just need to not be awkwardly forced to share space with fans of female vtubers

Hell even going back to meatspace, boy bands and traditional music groups have been using this formula for years. There are very few mixed gender bands that made it big, they are either all male or all female, at least publicly.
