Otsonny!! I dozed off right afterwards again, but seven hours of Zelda for the first stream earlier, tsuyoi... Really though, it was a good time, he seemed to thoroughly enjoy his introduction to this dilapidated hyrule— I mean, I'd hope he would since he's waited god knows how long to play it. Well, the first thing he did once link woke up from his 100 year slumber is hiss at the sun and try to crush the former king with a boulder, so I'd say we're off to a good start. The voice for the king is also pretty apt... i think we're gonna get some good VA from the NPCs with what little guidance their grunts give us. Sonny took fairly quickly to the basic mechanics of the game, though he did die his first death almost an hour in at the hands of a bokoblin while getting a feel for the combat. His reaction when he discovered the perfect dodge was really cute, I swear Nintendo games make him age regress. It took him like an hour to get to his first shrine, and here, when he gets magnesis, we're already seeing signs of his stubborn autism and insistence to do things a certain way... I look forward to a lot of that in this playthrough. The journey to get cryonis certainly tested my nerves. He ventured into the cold without food, elixirs or a doublet, instead opting to rely on a torch and raw ingredients to restore his ever-draining health. So stressful... I sighed in relief once he stepped back onto green grass. Of course he found the old man's hut and got the doublet after. The last two shrines were pretty standard stuff, though that isn't to say it was a linear affair. He got sidetracked plenty along the way; finding koroks, terrorizing the fauna, raiding monster camps, learning to cook... I also think it's cute how he thinks outside the box sometimes, even if the game doesn't always work with him— trying to blow the bees away with the korok leaf was a perfectly plausible idea. I'm glad he really enjoys the main gameplay loop of killing, gathering and puzzling so far! He also had his first run-in with a (stationary) guardian and only got obliterated once thanks to his own hubris, he got the hang of the deflect for the most part. After finally grabbing the bomb runes, he headed back to church to use the orbs he collected and alleviated his stamina problem a bit, then he could finally get the paraglider from santa... only took him almost five hours to leave the great plateau! From there on out it was mostly more fooling around; he tested out his newfound powers extensively by bombing bokoblins and metal detecting in some of hyrule's ponds. He also found hestu and got more stamina (before being somewhat disappointed when he could only get two upgrades right now), met a dog to feed, tried and failed to tame a horse after stalking the herd, usual Zelda stuff. He finally paused today's journey right when he arrived in kakariko. All things considered, I'm glad he's adjusting well. I'd say there's been a perfectly appropriate amount of retarded deaths so far considering the game. Botw is one of my favorite games and six(?!) years later it's still fun to watch someone go through it blind, makes me wish I could play it for the first time again. It's a shame that his controller is bugging out on him and putting a damper on his experience to an extent, he did sound kind of exasperated when it was still happening by the end of stream... hopefully by Thursday he can get everything sorted out. I know there's been some discussion /here/ about how he might not enjoy totk as much if he plays it right after botw, but he's been making pretty good progress, I don't think he'll go for a completionist run to burn himself out... but who knows what'll happen once he sees more of the world. Either way, I look forward to more adventures in hyrule, he's already been experimenting with combat. Packed week! Zelda week! He still skipped over the moveset stream when talking about his schedule! Not sure what The Upturned is all about but I guess he's been meaning to play it for a bit now, so I'm guessing it'll be a neat little spooky game.
