As someone with issues that probably could be solved with basic psychiatry who has attempted going to therapy multiple times, I also find the whole practice to be deeply flawed and I've left each session more frustrated with the structure of the whole ordeal than anything. I understand how my mental illness works, what the causes and my various triggers are, and how to cope, and I taught it all to myself after years of simply dealing with it. I didn't need to spend a fortune paying a stranger to dump all my trauma onto so they can psychoanalyze me and tell me things I already know only to not actually make any progress on any front because they're rushing me out the door since they're only paid to care about me for 45 minute intervals.
