It's a question of purity. Girls are pure, men aren't. They are a taint, a blemish on what could otherwise be unconditionally beautiful. I don't particularly care myself, but people who bash fans for being upset over their idol being associated with men does kinda piss me off because it shows a lack of understanding. Idol is an idol, that word says it all; they're meant to be something worth worshipping, something more perfect. If they see them palling it up with another guy though, that breaks the idol illusion. It's like your god is all of a sudden playing favorites, and you've been spurned. I mean, I'm using a rather extreme allusion, but surely you can see why it matters to people?

For something more mundane even an empty-headed normie can understand, if the woman you loved is hanging out with a male work colleague, you'd still be a tad upset. Normal people will get angry about their girlfriends having male friends all the time because men are naturally possessive. The fact fans of idols are willing to share among each other is solely because their oshi is unapproachable to all of them mutually. Unapproachable until they're hanging out with other dudes at least, then they're just not yours at all. There's only jealousy then.
