In Magic, some cards "create" new cards*, called tokens. Since they could be created an indefinite amount of times during a game and aren't kept in your deck, you're allowed to use nearly anything to represent them. Nowadays Magic provides optional official tokens in booster packs, but you're free to use whatever.

For example, for the real card Atla Palani, Nest tender (left); you could use the official Egg token (middle), or the custom token I just made (right), or an Exeggcute card from Pokemon, or an egg sandwich, something else not even egg related. You just need to be able to show it's been "tapped" (used for the turn) or not, which is typically done by turning a card sideways. Unfortunately you couldn't use an actual egg as it would roll around too much.

*Though most tokens are literal cards, in the Magic rules they aren't considered cards.
