Listen to this as you read for a better experience

>The long halls of the fortress monastery echoed with hymns of the infinitian choir
>Your footsteps thudded against the ornate stone floor as you walked, occasionally passed by a fellow Ourotor or techpriest
>You had never taken the time to appreciate the detail and effort that went into your chapter’s headquarters
>Pillars and halls painstakingly hand-chiseled out of raw ceramite; stained glass windows that could bring a grown man to tears with their beauty; and gargantuan doors made from hundreds to thousands of interlocking golden cogs
>Just like the one that now towers over you
>Hundreds of glistening cogs slowly turn, creating a cacophony of clinks as they open the massive gate
>You step through it and enter an even larger cathedral, one of many that reside within your fortress monastery
>The whole chamber is made of polished gold
>Shining pillars climb to impossible heights and disappear from view
>Row upon row of gleaming pews await occupants, their kneelers well worn from use
>At the end of the chamber, illuminating the room in sunlight, is an immense stained glass window created in the image of the Kroniissiah, flanked on either side by dozens of monumental organ pipes
>You ascend the small golden steps that mark the ceremonial section of the cathedral
>Upon a golden slab lays the body of a marine, clad in his power armor
>One of your battle brothers waits beside the body
>”Ah, Brother Anon. Welcome. I was saddened to hear you wouldn’t be able to make it to his funeral service.”
>”As was I that I couldn’t be here to witness it Brother Urgunn,” you reply. “But the Kroniissiah had need of me elsewhere.”
>“Elsewhere....how goes the battle on Emitzran IV?”
>”We’ve cut many of their supply lines, but they’ve fallen back into a defensive line of fortresses and dug in.”
>Brother Urgunn let’s our a heavy sigh. “Another long campaign.”
>You look down on at your armor, covered in scratches and dents, warped by the occasional plasma blast
>You shake your head. “Another bloodbath.”
>You turn and head and look up at the stained glass window, at the perfect face of the Kroniissiah
>”Even when we retake the planet, she has had to take too many for us to proclaim it as a victory.”
>You turn you gaze to the body in front of you.
>The marine holds a chainpick with both hands, which lays gently on his chest
>His golden helmet gleams in the sunlight that streams in
>To you he was not just some marine
>Captian Vhok was your mentor, an inspiration for all in the chapter
>You had served faithfully under him for two centuries
>A great leader and an even greater devotee to the Kroniissiah
>He was the kind of marine who could have taken a single squad to clear a space hulk and still come out victorious and unscathed
>After all the battles and campaigns you came to respect him
>He was gifted with excellent timing and was always willing to lend a piece of helpful advise or help a friend in need
>Brother Urgunn notices your sudden silence
>”Do not dwell on the past brother. To do that is to ignore the future.”
>There is wisdom in his words, and you heed his advice
>As you turn to leave, the entire cathedral is filled with the sound of a massive bell being rung
>Brother Urgunn gives a sigh of satisfaction. “The midday bells...”
>Each bong reverberates through your body and your soul
>It drowns out your beating heart
>The ground slightly shakes from the sound
>At last the clock strikes twelve and the cathedral is silent once more, save for the sound of your footsteps thudding against the floor as you leave
This will probably be my last post for a while. Writefagging in this general has been the most fun I’ve had in months. Thanks for reading anons.
Glory to the Kroniissiah!
