I think it's reasonable for people to drop Vegas or get filtered by it early on because they start up the game and everything is brown and dirty looking and you actually have to invest yourself in caring about why you're there in Goodsprings.
This is the same problem people have with Morrowind where it's got an interesting story to tell with basic, but fun RPG mechanics, but because everything looks brown and aged it prevents people from investing any time into it.

Ultimately, I do agree that it's fucking wack to say you like a series without playing multiple games of it.
