In theory it means you can rip short video directly from youtube since they use VP9 webms and so don't waste much time reencoding in VP8.
Also, VP9 seems to have better quality/bitrate for roughly the same filesize but I might be wrong.
Like for picrel I can do
ffmpeg -y -ss 01:44 -t 15 -i $(yt-dlp -g mEYmf1CW058 -f 247) -filter:v "crop=300:560:1280:720" hi_vp9.webm
Then extract the audio with
ffmpeg -ss 01:44 -t 15 -i $(yt-dlp -g mEYmf1CW058 -f 249) hi_vp9.mp3
and post it
