Mondo films are basically Documentaries meant to showcase the darker side of humanity, often by using real footage of death or war torn countries. The name originates from the Italian film that popularized the genre, "MONDO CANE"

The films usually either fall into 2 categories:

1. A compilation of real life death mixed in with dramatic parodies (The "Faces of death series", "Black Metal Veins")

2. Propaganda films showcasing the poverty and war torn states of a country, often with an extreme biased and funded by one side of the conflict.
("Africa Addio", the countless documentaries from the Iraq war made by Americans and Middle easterners alike, like "Buried in the sand")

The most famous example ironically is a mock parody based off of this genre, called Cannibal Holocaust.
