You enter the farmhouse, feeling exhausting come over you. The smell of grass still clings to you, and the warmth of the setting sun hits your back. You shake off your boots, cleaning the dirt off them before setting them down. The door closes with a creak, and you breathe a sigh of relief, another hard work of planting done. You peer into the kitchen, and there she is, the beautiful woman that you call your wife. She turns around, and gives that old, familiar smile.

"Guid wirk oot thare. A'm cooking up some veggies fur ye. Juist relax 'n' ah will be dane soon." she says over her shoulder.

Even after so many years, you still love every day that you spend together. All the hardships, all the memories, they seem so distant now. Yet you remember each moment like it was yesterday. Your first meeting, the first time you asked her out, the blush on her face as she smiled and kissed you. And then your first child, the struggles of parenting, the pride you felt they first walked. Then too see it all happen again when they grew up, struggling the same as you have, to find love the same as you have. All these things you've thought about so many times. You wouldn't trade it for anything.

Deep in reminiscence, you hardly notice dinner being done. She sits there on the other side of the table, giving you that warm smile again. "Stuck in yer heid again, anon?" she says, "Ye think o' th' past tae much.". You smile back, always amazed at her ability to read you so well. With a hole in your stomach that seems to grow larger by the minute, you both dig in. It's divine, always refreshing, and always green.

You both talk at lengths of all the things that has been, and perhaps things that still will be, you laugh, and shout, and sit in comfortable silence. After dinner, you relax in the lounge, and you lay your head on her lap. A long day of work behind you, this has never failed to relax you, pulling all the tension from your body, putting you at peace. After what seems to be too short of a time, there is a knock on the door, it's the kids and grandkids, always so cheery and loud. To still be remembered and cared for after all this time, you can't help but smile back. To see your family grow and cherish each other is a feeling like no other, and perhaps this is what you've always wished for. You welcome them in, and bring out the drinks.
