Yes. It's a vital part of the sleep cycle, but as you sleep longer, the time spent in REM during each cycle increases proportionally. This extra time in REM is unnecessary and takes away from time spent in the restorative stages of sleep. Not advocating for going without sleep - just saying you can be better rested if you break up your sleeping into smaller chunks.
