I wish you wouldn't make me kneel on a bro's back, but...military uniforms have always been a badass aesthetic, especially in anime. They symbolize discipline, sturdiness, rigidity and tend to be the hallmark of characters who don't fuck around. It's a matter of course that some costume afficianados would adopt those trappings if they happen to suit their preferences.

I'll just throw pic related in to make the point that she's not and will likely never be a soldier, but that doesn't mean she ought be lynched for wearing a costume based on a military uniform.
