I’ll jump into this conversation and say that’s not a requirement.
Here is the list of boy vtubers and their medians

It seems there are only two ways to succeed as a boy vtuber
1) sign with Nijisanji
2) be a specialist
On point 2) you get the Genshin ones, the FPS ones, the Phasmo one, the baseball one.

There aren’t lots of other avenues for even a 2k+ median. It’s either Niji or being really good at something and focusing on it

You surely know Roberu and Astel are from the same gen, right? They’re currently the #1 and #2 overall for all Holostars.
I don’t have the data with me but I have a hunch that they’re capable of overcome the Temma debuff and outrank Tempiss.

Roberu, in May 2023, was the highest ranked Holostar and the only with a 2k+ median.

He also outranked Gwelu, Sonny, Olver and Belmond.

In this cut it is visible how different the boy vtuber market is from the girl vtuber market

1) Only five (5) channels have a 10k+ median: Kuzuha, Toya, Chiroru, Lauren and Yashiro
>with Nerumero failing a grownup check for 10k
2) Only ten (10) other channels have 5k+ median with one of those being a boy in name only (Tamaki)
3) No NijiEN boy made the cut for 5k
4) No StarsEN boy made the cut for 2k
5) Roberu made the cut for 2k
6) The median point for the medians of the boy vtubers is below 1k (908)
7) Oga is the lowest ranked Holostar. He still outranks one singular NijiJP boy: Hajime
8) Algorhythm Project has three boys outranking every Noctyx with one (DaCapo) also outranking every Luxiem
9) Both Roberu and Astel outrank Gwelu, Oliver and Belmond
10) Andi Adinata, the highest ranked MAHA5 boy, is outranked by Oga, the lowest Holostar

That's the state of the boy vtuber market right now with the most salient point being
