The reason why I'm so hesitant is because one of my best friends dated a single mom for four years and bonded with her son hard. He took him to Disneyland, all of his soccer games, and in the last year they were together he'd make his school lunches every morning. One day she decides that she's not really in love with him but sees him more as a roommate and they broke up. Losing not only his girlfriend but his "son" did a real number on him and he hasn't dated since (three years so far). I feel like I'd swallow a shotgun if I were put in a similar situation.
