As a person who loves giving hugs you'd be surprised how many people too would love to give them but just don't even cross that threshold.

Just ask man...If you need support just ask someone for a hug. Men generally will almost always say yes and give you a hug too. Woman assume it's to cop a feel but if its a guy there is no reason to assume its sexual and you just need a bit of human contact.
