You’re right about Jamil’s feelings being misplaced, but that’s what I love about him… I like servant characters a lot and I thought it was a unique twist (heh) to have Jamil actually despise and betray Kalim and be the real villain of Book 4. For someone so cold and calculating, he’s surprisingly very emotionally stupid and gets competitive, and that comes out in how the one thing he can control in his life is his relationship with Kalim, especially now that they’re not under the direct eye of their parents.
Kalim is a very kind and understanding boy, and he could have absolutely understood Jamil’s feelings but it was sadly beaten into Jamil even that young to never inconvenience his master and it unfortunately stewed into this mess. Thankfully Kalim is a sweetheart who will never give up on Jamil, they’re both unreasonable in their own ways…!
I used to play the JP TWST and Jamil and Kalim’s story doesn’t end here, there’s a very cute event in the future where they return to their country and have plenty of moments reconnecting in the main story too. After all this, Kalim becomes someone who can truly understand Jamil and even if it took a long, arduous path to get there, I’m glad they can have this kind of understanding.
It’s really fun to talk about TWST like this, it’s like I’m watching Elipeto argue about Enstars boys kek
