Nice answers so far. The time period is comparable to just about before the industrial revolution in terms of tech. Absolutely nothing wrong with drawing from Japan, though you might want to know that quite a few nations are inspired by Japan, given how predominant Japanese culture is in vtubing. But again, there's nothing wrong with that, it's a bit like Japan-esque culture was predominant worldwide instead of the anglo-saxon influence that is found everywhere IRL.
