Basically Maoruya was one of the biggest indie vtuber streamers at a time when KR vtubing was growing and then she suddenly disappeared. There was a rumor she was being managed by a bad company and that she was an idol. Basically the gist of it was that she wasn't supposed to be streaming (as an actual idol) but then got caught. So people freaked out over the course of a month, thinking she disappeared by the Yakuza or something. Then she suddenly came back out of the blue, telling everyone that she had left her previous employment to do vtubing full time. It was all very dramatic, but it's hard to convey that through text I suppose.
