I only buy games after scrutinizing every possible aspect of it. I look at trailers, gameplay videos, reviews, and play demos if possible. Even then, I usually wait until a month has passed if it's a multiplayer game (and even longer if it's single-player) before I decide, often only buying a game on sale.
The games I do buy, I always beat at least once. If, despite my research, I don't enjoy it as much as I hoped, I just leave it at that. However, if I like it as much as I hoped, I try to 100% it if the achievements aren't ludicrous. If I like a game far more than expected, I grind out even the ridiculous achievements too.
I don't move on from a game until I at least beat it once though. I've never had a game so bad that I couldn't at least reach the end.
