It's weird of Australians to think that vegemite is unique to them. The western world like North America and Europe has the same product except it's called Marmite. In fact, Marmite came first, and Vegemite was just what the aussies called their version but they're exactly the same. This product is just not popular in the west as much as it is in Aussie land.

This reminds me of the time when an Australian thought "have a good one" is a phrase only aussies say and nobody outside of Australia knows what it means.
