The design of the boss arena for Father Gascoigne is great, isn't it? It's claustrophobic and made in a way where you can get caught on the graves or trees if you retreat too much and don't keep track of your footing. Which is admittedly hard to do since an aggressive werewolf fucker is screaming and running at you.

I love how they did that, there was thought put into it instead of just being a circular room.

The shift probably happened because the fans got better at the games over time. I personally think 3 was the best balance of new and old, but ER pushed it way too far. It makes me worried/wonder about what their next souls style ARPG is gonna be like. You might as well make me control and play like Dante if you're gonna be making your game that crazy.
