There are some really basic ones but you learn to recognize the others over time. Just play with a chart.

No Yaku.
Although you are in tenpai (configuration of a hand that allows you to win)
you do not have a Yaku.

Having a Yaku and being in Tenpai is a requirement.
The 3 Tenpai states are as follows:
13 Orphans waiting on a pair of a terminal/honor (yaku is called kokushi musou)
6 Pairs waiting on the 7th (yaku is called chitoitsu)
and
4 Melds and 1 Pair (the standard one you know).

Your hand has 4 melds and 1 Pair, but because you have no yaku you cannot win.

You will enjoy it over time.
The game can be very simple, if you learn 4 yakus:
Tanyao (All Simples, can be open or closed)
Riichi (Closed hand ready to win hand)
Yakuhai (Has a triplet of honor tiles, such as dragons or the round wind, or your seat wind).
Pinfu (no triplets, win off a ryanman wait (2 waits).

Yaku is just a pattern in the hand that lets you win.
Most Yakus are 1 han (think of them like points)
Some are 2 han.
Some Yakus are really rare so you don't really need to worry about them at the start.
