>HLM tried everything it could to seem like the official clip channel. They also stole clips from other clippers and didn’t give credit.
And used Hololive official logo, pushed for and verified "to distinguish from copycats" and not only stole clips but then resorted to copystrike clippers that used theirs "without permission".

The thing is: they didn't do anything different from what they were already doing on BIlibili, a plaform Cover JP had very few direct control (being at the hands of the CN managers) and where control of each of the talent official channels was delegated to fan translators.

>That's actually a pretty interesting theory.

>So basically your thesis implies that zhangs were one of the main forces behind holo's penetration of the west market
Not really a "theory", I'm stating that as a matter of fact.
Most contemporary knew back then "Hololive Moments" was easily the most impactful clipper channel, what most didn't know was that
>they were mostly chinese

One of their grievances that bubbled up when they took the stand they did was
>why are we investing all this time and effort creating english subbed clips and DOING IT FOR FREE when Cover clearly is siding with westerners on an issue that matters a lot for us
>while at it, why are we manning their official channels on Bilibili, also FOR FREE, and they don't even as much as acknowledge our demands

They then went "all in" and forced Cover to choose either the chinese market or the (back then barely existing) western market.
It is important to remember many of the girls (Haachama, for instance) had a live Bilibili stream on their regular schedule where they did the same
>Haachama speaking in cute broken english
thing for them, but in chinese
thing.
For instance: see
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eNCdZCAEWR0

That all happened while their penetration in the west was at best an unknown ENTIRELY based on the very same zhang clippers manning their bilibili channels.

Then Cover did the most amazing thing and, with their just debutted EN branch CALLED THE ZHANGS ON THEIR "ALL IN" with their own and pulled out entirely from the chinese market, disbanded their branch and weathered off the total loss of any commercial relationship with any company even barely connected with China, even from products more western than zhang
>like MuseDash

It feels like it was a decade ago but not even a full year has passed. Hololive grew so much from September 2020 to now I can assume what I just described is ancient history for most of the dozen people reading it.
