I think a lot of people on /e/ have moved toward using pony derivatives like AnimeConfettiTuneXL, and /e/ is about as vanilla as it gets for 4chan.
As for backgrounds, it's not completely incapable of complex scenery, but I'll admit it's not the focus and I don't see a lot of anons generating crazy stuff. It has a strong bias toward simple backgrounds and you have to push for complex ones.
