this, your average dude who unironically wants to become a male vtuber strikes me as being something like pic related. amateur, college-age pudgy weebs who want to become dub voice actors or something, themselves are huge vtuber fans - people kind of like a lot of /vt/ only with bigger egos and less self-awareness that no, they're fucking cringe and yes we can immediately tell they're not that interesting or distinctive of people and their wanting to get into girl vtubers' pants is at least 50% of why they're doing this at all (the other 50% being hoping that they can manage to make it big and live off this as a gig).

if within a few months their solid 2view status making $5 a stream justifiably checks their egos and evaporates their epic plan to become big names and get into holostars and fuck their oshi (which probably like 99% of them wish do to even though many will never admit that out loud), what does that leave left them with for goals? get into other vtubers' pants. it's all they have left, all they can try to "accomplish" is to just be parasites infesting the medium. and that's what they proceed to do.

anyone who doesn't like vtubers and also cares-enough to try to fuck with their fans might dig around a bit to see what gets under their skin and harp on it as much as they can. it's not hard to figure it out at all. once they know they will just go all-in on males and employ as much sophistry and bad faith arguments as they can find to try to just shit all over the vtuber space.

that or it's people like pic related who want the existence of male vtubers to be validated because they themselves have some secret epic plan to become a vtuber themselves to go groom their waifu. it's so obvious it's painful and they're too stubborn and naive to give up on the idea. I've seen it first-hand, people I've known online who were vtuber fans for a while and then start to audition for holostars and such because they literally plan on getting into it to get closer to their holo oshi. do these fuckers think we don't know? do they think they're being sly here? they're not.

>what compels a man to become a vtuber
There are several types/reasons really, common among them being -

a,) Brotubers (or at least people who believe that can actually-exist and not get pulled into a gay fujo thing if they actually ever get an audience). Maybe this was Vesper? Dunno if true anymore.

b.) Cynical normalfags in it to make a buck - BFE bait for maximum profit and have no respect for anything in the medium at all, hence also may become sex pests around the girls too because again, no respect, at all. Aka Vox.

Although, I think probably the majority are -
c.) Cringe zoomers who are like this generation's version of "that kid" in school who takes Japanese classes and has "serious" plans to voice act in anime or be an animator or draw manga etc. Pic related. In the case of vtubers these are more like the amateur dubfag types. Possibly they're ugly losers irl who see vtubing as like a lifehack way to become the cool anime man as wish fulfilment, and hide behind their much-better-looking avatar to try to groom girl vtubers or really anyone willing to pay attention to them. Luca in NijiEN is this for example.

I must also say in Japan there is the whole category of d.) male idol of sorts. utaite, ikemen, host-club type dudes etc, there to cater to women but not to groom them (not openly at least). This category does not exist in the West. I think Cover thinks it does and tries to find them like with Axel but they aren't really a thing here.

also forgot pic. you don't wanna say "omg it's ME!!!" while playing an anime char more likely than not. using the avatar to play something that you in fact, are not, is IMO actually less cringe. both ideas are cringe in their own ways but vtubing as a whole kind of just is.
